Strawberries and Learning

Transitional Kindergarten students studied strawberry plants and the book Cook-A-Doodle Doo by Janet Stevens. In the story, Brown Rooster, the great grandson of the Little Red Hen, makes a strawberry shortcake with his barnyard friends. The students compared a strawberry plant to blueberry plants. The lesson then introduced measurement, cooking terminology, recipes and various kitchen tools as the members of the class worked to bake a strawberry shortcake from scratch. The moms of our little bakers will be treated to this yummy dessert at an early Mother’s Day celebration.
