What is Compass?

Compass at The Christ School provides students with the opportunity to explore and experience critical and creative thinking. Students are engaged in a variety of critical thinking problems, puzzles, spontaneous exercises, logic, and strategy activities. These activities are all designed to strengthen mental skills necessary for making decisions about everything in our lives; namely weighing the evidence and finding the truth.  Students are encouraged to take risks in a safe environment, think objectively, and arrive at conclusions based on logic and fact.  The idea that “Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives  is being systematically cultivated.  Students will utilize critical thinking skills to evaluate and respond to a challenge/experience in light of Biblical principles.
During the first week of school, students in grades TK – 6 participated in a large group non-verbal challenge.  The students then discussed what their ideas for what their Table Names might be and gave each other feedback.  Ask your child what his/hers is!  This activity had them using adjectives or alliteration to come up with a name they will use in Compass to help us remember each others names.  This is also a team building activity that helps to begin the year as a class family.
