Student Support Spotlight, by Alissa Plaisance – November 28

Growing up, I was fortunate to live close to a fabulous Children’s Art Museum which encouraged lots of hands-on creation activities and classes. Visiting this artsy wonderland was kinesthetic heaven for me. Yesterday I was in our STEAM lab looking at the colorful bins of random supplies and it triggered memories of my time at the museum. I love to watch the children tinkering and creating in there! It made me think about the benefits of children creating things versus consuming. Children get lots of opportunities to consume with media and toys but how often do we just gather a bunch of “loose parts” and say CREATE?!
