Civic Engagement
TCS 7th grade student, Miller Phillips, acted on his interest in learning more about serving his community through civic engagement by volunteering as a page in the Florida House of Representatives. He was selected to join 19 fellow pages from around the state to take part in a variety of educational activities, including in-depth tours of historic landmarks, drafting a bill and presenting it in a mock committee meeting, observing a live legislative committee meeting, and serving as a page on the House floor during session. Miller enjoyed meeting with several House members and government leaders. Additionally, Miller was able to take part in advocacy efforts on behalf of children’s issues. Miller said, “This experience helped put what I am learning in civics class into real life.” We give a Lion’s Roar to Miller for his initiative and hard work!
