Developing Confident Speakers

TCS 6^th grade students participate in a Youth Leadership/Public Speaking course to develop communication and leadership skills. The ability to express yourself clearly so that you are heard and understood is a lifelong skill. The students speak before an audience, evaluate each other and give feedback, practice impromptu speaking, discover the principle of good listening, lead entire sessions, and present their thoughts and ideas logically and convincingly. Their teacher, Mrs. Gibbs says, “Our Youth Leadership/Public Speaking course is a program of Toastmasters International and our sessions resemble an adult Toastmasters’ session. It is amazing to see the students develop their confidence as they step into the various roles each speaking session offers.”
