Middle School Spotlight – Exploring Governments

Seventh grade Civics students are learning about the major types of government. To enhance their learning, they worked in groups and used gummy bears to create scenes that depicted democracies, oligarchies, anarchy, dictatorships, monarchies, and theocracies, without indicating which government was depicted. Students photographed their scenes and created google slides to share with their classmates, who guessed which government was being portrayed in each scene. The students reflected on the success of each group, discussed and wrote about what aspects made one group’s scenes more successful than others.
