Shaping Students’ Hearts with One Great Day of Service
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CONTACT: Nicole Millard, Director of Marketing and Enrollment
One Great Day of Service, an annual tradition of The Christ School (TCS), a downtown Orlando independent K-8 school, is quickly approaching. This community event involves the full participation of all students, teachers, and faculty along with parents who volunteer and give back to their neighbors in the heart of downtown Orlando.
Each grade will assist with age-specific activities at various community service facilities such as city parks, senior centers, churches, and homeless shelters aiming to help those in our local community. Specifically, these service activities range from special projects for kindergarten students at a local church to cleaning park facilities and organizing and distributing donations and lunches. As TCS’s youth provide much needed volunteer services for the local community they enhance their own educational experience by learning more about the community in which they live.
This heartwarming experience shared by students and teachers alike teaches a valuable lesson, that donating their time and energy brings joy, not only to those they serve, but to themselves. Each child walks away from this day’s events knowing what it means to look beyond themselves to the needs of others and to love their neighbors as themselves.
Volunteering is a great tool to help children boost their social skills as they reach out and connect with their community. The Christ School recognizes the enormous benefits of volunteering to the students as well as local organizations they will be visiting. Jason Powell Ed.D., Head of School, said, “The Christ School Mission is intentionally focused on cultivating the scholarship, service, and leadership skills of our students. Our vision is that each TCS graduate is committed to being others oriented. On Friday, October 5th, all of our students will experience a powerful day that will help shape their hearts.”
Will you be downtown on Friday, October 5th? Feel free to stop by briefly and show support for the many children experiencing the fulfilling power of local community involvement.
