Transformative Grant Propels The Bridge at The Christ School to New Heights

In a momentous occasion for The Christ School (TCS) and its dedicated dyslexia support program, The Bridge, the institution has been awarded an unprecedented grant from the Lighthouse Charitable Foundation. The grant, totaling over one million dollars, will be disbursed annually, amounting to $350,000 each year for the next three years.

The announcement was made by Alissa Plaisance, Director of The Bridge and Student Support for TCS at a recent parent event, where she expressed profound gratitude for the generosity of the Lighthouse Charitable Foundation and the ongoing support of the community. “This blessing will allow us to advance our program offerings in several crucial areas, benefiting not only The Bridge but all our students, including traditional and gifted learners.”

The grant will be instrumental in the following key initiatives:

  1. Professional Development for Teachers: TCS is committed to maintaining the highest standards of education. The grant will facilitate extensive professional development opportunities for teachers, ensuring they remain at the forefront of innovative teaching methods including, but not limited to the Orton-Gillingham approach.
  2. Transition Support for Students Entering Middle School: Recognizing the challenges students face during the transition to middle school, additional support and resources will be provided to ensure a seamless and positive experience for every student.
  3. Financial Assistance for Families in Need: A portion of the grant will be dedicated to providing financial assistance to families facing economic challenges.
  4. Expertise from Speech Language Pathologists and Occupational Therapists: To address the diverse needs of students, the grant will fund the inclusion of skilled professionals, including a speech-language pathologist and an occupational therapist, who will work collaboratively with educators to provide targeted assistance.

TCS Director of Development, Lindsay McKinney acknowledged the collective effort that has brought The Bridge program to this point, stating, “Our ability to help students reach their God-given potential is made possible by the generosity of the community who love and care for our children and our mission. We are grateful to our supporters and specifically the Lighthouse Foundation for their partnership in defining the gold standard in education for this unique group of learners. This gift will change lives.”

The impact of this grant will extend beyond supporting academics. “We feel so blessed and know that this gift from the Lighthouse Foundation will propel us to help more students and families who will ultimately grow in ways far beyond learning to read. This gift will help them grow closer to God and His Word,” Mrs. Plaisance shared.

As TCS embarks on this next phase for its Bridge program, the school invites the entire community to celebrate this significant milestone. The Lighthouse Charitable Foundation’s generous donation will not only elevate the educational experience for current students but will also open doors for more students and families to thrive in the future.
