The Christ School Cross Country Team

Spotlight on Cross Country – Coach Laura Kerlek

How do you feel about coaching at TCS?
SO EXCITED!!! I was always involved in sports growing up with my dad and then when I raised my sons. Now that my sons are grown and have moved out, being a Coach fills that “empty spot” in my life by allowing me to be a part of athletics and sports!  Being a coach is rewarding as well as a blessing being able to watch young athletes make and achieve not only personal goals but team goals. Being a coach reminds me of some of the precious memories of the times I spent with my dad and sons.

What is your favorite thing about being here?
After teaching in Public School in Collier County for 16 years, when I moved to Orlando I was blessed to be hired by TCS. My favorite thing about teaching at TCS is being able to not only teach but to be able to talk about and discuss my faith and pray with my students! Equally my favorite thing about TCS is the STUDENTS!!!

Do you have any goals or ideas that you are hoping to achieve this year?
Goal 1: Have fun!
Goal 2:The Boys’ Cross Country team is young so this year we are challenging ourselves to get 3rd in the Championship in October

What races are you currently training for?
I just finished the Summer 200 challenge. Yes, this summer I ran a total of 200+ miles during the months of June, July and August!
I am currently training for the Disney Fairy Tale Challenge in February 2018. This is a 2 day run event where you run a 10k one day and a 1/2 Marathon the next day.
