The Gift of Reading

The Christ School is pleased to welcome Nicole Hamilton as a Bridge intensive reading teacher.  “I always knew I wanted to work with children in some capacity, and God led me to teaching,” says Nicole. “I started my career teaching exceptional student education (ESE)  in the public school system. When I  became a mom, I stepped out of the classroom and started tutoring. At that time, a friend of mine went through training for the Orton Gillingham approach to teaching reading.  She explained how her students were finding confidence in reading, and how much she enjoyed watching them blossom as readers.  I knew I wanted to be able to give my students the gift of reading as well, so I became trained in Orton Gillingham. There is nothing quite like unlocking a child’s gift to read!”

“I am happy to be working with students in a classroom setting again,” continues Nicole. “It has been fun getting to know them and learning their personalities. I look forward to seeing how my students grow academically and spiritually.”

“Getting to know staff and faculty at TCS has been a highlight of the school year,” says Nicole. “I have been welcomed with open arms, and everyone is so helpful. At TCS, the faculty and staff participate in weekly prayer groups. This is something I have really enjoyed. Praying together for our students every week is a gift!”

Nicole grew up in Rockledge, Florida, and attended Merritt Island Christian School from pre-kindergarten to 12th grade. She and her husband, Bradley, will celebrate their 10 year anniversary next week. They have two children, Calvin, age 2, and Ila Gray, a TK TCS Lion. “I enjoy singing in a band and volunteering at my church,” she says. “I love to host parties and plan events, and look forward to doing these things again soon.”

Nicole shares her favorite Bible verse:
My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever! Psalm 73:26
