Service Learning

Service Learning

Service learning is an integral component which defines the culture and community of The Christ School. In each classroom, service is personal. Sometimes it is influenced by a student’s or teacher’s personal experience, or it may manifest through an alternative serving project. Service happens all year long.

In Middle School, service learning activities are a requirement.

6th grade – 6 hours
7th grade – 8 hours
8th grade – 10 hours

One Great Day

One Great Day of Service is a day in which all TCS students, teachers, staff members and parent volunteers spend an entire day volunteering at a variety of locations in the Central Florida community. This is an important tradition at The Christ School since the event was first implemented in 2001,The Christ School believes that a day of service at all grade levels provides a unique opportunity to learn the Biblical value of serving others and teaches children to be community leaders. “One Great Day of Service is one of the highlights of our school year,” says Jason Powell, Head of School. “The act of serving brings many blessings to our students. Participants experience the joy of showing compassion and sharing their gifts and talents with those who can benefit from them. They learn to look beyond themselves and focus on others. Through service, team-building opportunities with classmates are plentiful as the students work together, sharing their individual strengths to complete their tasks.”

Each grade assists with age-specific activities at various community service facilities including city parks and non-profit community organizations with the goal of making a difference to those in our local community. In addition to providing much needed volunteer services, The Christ School’s students enhance their own educational experience by learning more about the community in which they live.

Students and volunteers from The Christ School serve at locations throughout Central Florida each year including:

  • First Presbyterian Church of Orlando
  • City of Orlando Fire Station No. 1
