Exploring Landmarks

First grade students have been learning about American landmarks and symbols. They have been exploring the meanings of these symbols and the importance of them to our country. Last week, they collaborated in teams to showcase their creativity and critical thinking skills to create models of the Statue of Liberty. The students included details such as her headdress with 7 spikes to represent oceans and continents, her robe, representing the Roman Goddess of Freedom, and her tablet inscribed with the date of the Declaration of Independence.
