Novel Ideas

Students displayed their creativity in Mrs. Sheldon’s 6th – 8th grade Language Arts classes. With an objective of personally connecting with the author’s ideas and purpose in their independent reading, the students chose a project to reflect their understanding of a novel in an authentic design or written piece of their own. Projects included models, dioramas, calendars, letters to the author, children’s books, and sketches. “I am always amazed at the students’ designs and creativity when project day arrives,” says Mrs. Sheldon. “Even the written pieces are authentic and provide profound explanations of the novels in ways I never noticed before. When the students can teach the teachers and go beyond the text, you know the project was worth the time and effort.”
