Team STEAM Challenge

Sixth grade Earth Science students were given a STEAM challenge – design bridges! They worked in teams to design and build bridges strong enough to span a 50 cm “canyon” and strong enough to hold a 50-gram rock. The students could choose a limited number of materials from the “store,” which included straws, Popsicle sticks, clothespins, binder clips, string, tape and cups. “The students were very engaged in this challenge,” said their teacher, Mrs. Kleinsteuber. “I heard great ideas as the students brainstormed their plans and later tested and modified their designs. All of the bridges were successful, and the children were excited to create them and put them to the test!”
